Tasting Notes
In practice, the term Edelzwicker is still commonly used to refer to any blend of white grape varieties of the AOC Alsace, without any indication of percentage. The grape varieties can be vinified together or separately. Mention of the vintage is optional. Historically, these different grape varieties came from the same plot. Originally called “Zwicker” (assemblage), the prefix of Edel (noble) was added to mark the presence of noble grape varieties chosen to replace the large producer varieties.
FRANCE
Alsace
Alsace is a wine region with strong Germanic influences located in north-east of France. For instance, Alsace is the only French wine region to predominately grow grapes commonly associated with German wines – Riesling and Gewurztraminer. A Grand Cru classification system exists in Alsace.
